St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College Website
As this term draws to a close it is a pleasure to report the excellent work I have observed around the school recently in the various activities the school has in place to develop and improve our practice. We watch each other teach on a regular basis and share ideas about how to stretch and challenge the pupils to do even better. Our pupils are sometimes very modest about their work and we are encouraging them to be more self-confident and articulate about their achievements, especially when they are being observed or asked about their studies. But it was very heartening to see them getting so involved in such a wide range of learning activities. Well done to the staff too!
Recently we have had pupil visitors from Oakwood School who took part in a trampoline day which allowed some of our Year 11 PE students to develop their leadership skills. There is nothing quite to compare to the experience of putting into practice the theory learned in class with real people. It also means a lot to us as a school to share activities and develop links with other local schools, especially staff from our main Catholic feeders with whom we will be sharing part of our training day in January.
This week we had our first Mass for parents which was a very pleasant initiative and I am particularly looking forward to Wednesday evening which is the Prize Giving ceremony for the year 13 from 2013-14. It is a source of great excitement for us to see how they have been doing at university or in the world of work.
We are, therefore, at the end of term and I would like to thank you for your continued support. I am also grateful to my staff for their unstinting efforts on the pupils’ behalf. Good luck to Mrs Harrison as she moves on to a new challenge in Rugby. I wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas in the hope that you manage to spend lots of time with the people that matter to you most.
With my very best wishes.
St Thomas More School is committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
