A message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers

This half term is certainly gathering pace as we go steadily past the half-way point in the school year and consider how much has been achieved and what more needs to be done, particularly for exam classes. Our run of spring term parent evenings ended last night with Year 9 and we will now strive to ensure that the pupils put into practice the ways in which they can improve. Certainly they have seen that teachers and parents are committed to their success. For Year 9 it is important that the removal of the National Curriculum Tests by the government does not lead to complacency as they end key stage 3. A number of subjects begin GCSE work after Easter so the students will be expected to continue their trajectory of improvement right to the end of the year.

In terms of outside events our Year 12 Sociology students participated in a conference at Trinity School in Leamington which they found to be very useful. On Wednesday Year 7 pupils represented the school at the Archbishop Romero Mass at St Chad's cathedral in Birmingham. They were, of course, a credit to the school.

In the coming week we will strive to make a telling contribution to the well-being of groups of people less fortunate than ourselves at home and abroad through the fundraising that takes place on charities afternoon. A wide range of activities has been planned by staff and Year 12 who have a leadership role to play as part of their ASDAN qualification.

We will also welcome to the school on Thursday a motivational speaker with particular experience in raising achievement, Gary Wilson, who will be working with some boys in Years 9 and 10 and then leading workshops with staff and parents later in the evening.

I wish you all a pleasant weekend.

Yours sincerely

F Hickey
